Samsung Galaxy 2 Pro Review with pros and cons

Samsung has finally launched its’ latest lineup of the galaxy book series in the market. With the stunning screen and small form factor Samsung hopes to capture some of the markets in the premium ultrabook segment.

Even though Samsung’s past launches and product lineups were unable to capture the market segment in ultrabooks. This year they promise better products in the lineup with better marketing.

Build Quality

The build quality of the Samsung Galaxy Book 2 pro is top-notch as expected from Samsung. Full metal builds with silver finish are what you get in India currently. It comes in both 13.3-inch and 15.6-inch sizes. And weighing around 0.83kg, the Samsung Galaxy Book 2 pro is as versatile and light as it gets in the market currently.

It’s even much lighter than MacBooks and Dell XPS series ultrabooks, the direct competitors in the segment.

Ports,I/O and connectivity

When it comes to ports and connectivity Samsung has offered all the essentials. 3 USB ports, Thunderbolt 4(Type c), multi-card slot, headphone, and mic combo jack ports are what you get with the ultrabook.

There’s also Bluetooth 5.1 and wifi 6E (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac) as per the standards.

Input Devices

Keyboard– Chicklet style keyboard with 1mm key travel is standard through all variations of Samsung Galaxy notebook pro. It’s a small keyboard for a small chassis and adaptive white backlit is also present in it. There’s also a slight curve in the keyboard chassis for a better typing experience.

Trackpad-The trackpad on the Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Pro is fairly large considering its size.

It also used windows precision for better accuracy and functionality. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have separate keys but a whole trackpad with multiple functionalities embedded in it.

Apart from all these you also get a webcam which is pretty decent considering all the webcams on the market.

Display

As expected from Samsung, the display on the Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Pro is just brilliant. It comes with a super AMOLED display rather than a conventional LCD. It’s super color accurate 1920 x1080, 60Hz screen with HDR 500 support as well. Also, Samsung claims its display blocks up to 70% of harmful blue rays, thus giving good eye health.

If someone’s doing photo or video editing on these ultrabooks, then there’s going to be no issues whatever with color reproduction on the screen.

Performance

Samsung’s ultrabook comes in 2 options in India. One with Intel Core i5-1240p and the second one with Intel Core i7-1260p.

Both of these are fairly decent considering the size and target audience of the laptop. Heavy gaming is a big no from us on this machine, considering its thermal management as an ultrabook.

One would not get face any issues while doing day-to-day activities including college or schoolwork.

Intel Iris Xe graphics are standard throughout all models.

Storage

Samsung offers only 1 variant in India which comes with 512 GB of SSD and 16GB of RAM. Many might run out of storage in this case i.e., professionals. Then one might need to invest in an external SSD to suffice their need.

Speakers

Speakers on the Samsung Galaxy Book 2 pro are pretty impressive considering its size. It’s powered by AKG and Dolby Atmos. A peak output of 4W is what you get with these speakers.

Battery life

The Ultrabook comes with a 63Whr Li-ion battery pack, which Samsung promises up to 21 hours of battery life on light usage. One would hope to get around 10 hours of battery life on mixed usage.

Upgradability

Unfortunately, nothing is upgradable in the Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Pro. Considering it’s an ultrabook and it’s so thin, it was kind of expected from Samsung.
