HP Victus Full review - Full Review with Pros and Cons
HP is back with its new Victus series of gaming laptops with the latest specs and affordability. It’s a new series of 16 inch gaming laptops focused on casual gaming and value for money.
HP Victus is one of the most anticipated gaming laptops of 2021. Available in both Intel and AMD coupled with the latest RTX series GPUs, it’s already a hit among many.
Build and Quality
Ports, I/O and Connectivity
The ports are spread across the two sides of the laptop, there’s 1 SuperSpeed USB Type-C 5Gbps signaling rate (DisplayPort™ 1.4, HP Sleep and Charge); 1 SuperSpeed USB Type-A 5Gbps signaling rate (HP Sleep and Charge);1 HDMI 2.1; 1 RJ-45; 1 AC smart pin; 1 headphone/microphone combo on the left and 2 SuperSpeed USB Type-A 5Gbps signaling rate on the right.
Input Devices
Touchpad-The touchpad comes with windows precision support but lacks the dedicated left and right clicks, rather the whole touchpad acts like one button. It’s fairly precise and large enough for gaming laptops giving good clicks with consistency and an audible click sound.
Display
The base models come with 16.1″ diagonal FHD, IPS, anti-glare, micro-edge WLED-backlit, 250 nits (1920 x 1080), and the highest spec models come with up to 16.1″ diagonal, FHD (1920 x 1080), 144 Hz, 7 ms response time, IPS, micro-edge, anti-glare, Low Blue Light, 300 nits, 100% sRGB
If you want to experience proper gaming then we would at least recommend a 16.1″ diagonal, FHD (1920 x 1080), 144 Hz, IPS, micro-edge, anti-glare, 250 nits, 45% NTSC display to take full advantage of the powerful GPUs.
Performance
The performance on this device is pretty good. The chassis is properly cooled and is able to handle the powerful hardware inside.
It comes with both the latest 11th gen Intel series processors(upto Intel® Core™ i7-11800H with up to 4.6 GHz with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology, 24 MB L3 cache, 8 cores, 16 threads) and the latest AMD Ryzen 5000 series processors(upto AMD Ryzen™ 7 5800H with up to 4.4 GHz, 16 MB L3 cache, 8 cores, 16 threads).
Intel’s 11th-gen Tiger Lake and AMD’s Ryzen 5000 are very closely matched for general use, but AMD’s Ryzen 5000U has a slight edge when it comes to video editing though is very subtle.
Coupled with four different GPUs options namely Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1650, RTX 3050, RTX 3050Ti, and RTX 3060, it has a lot of power under its hood. You will easily get 60+ FPS in most AAA titles and also 120+ FPS in most e-sports titles.
The highest spec version with the RTX 3060 graphics comes with the option of an Intel/AMD processor which is a good sign for things to come.
Storage
The base versions of HP Victus come with only 256 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD coupled with 8 GB DDR4-2933 MHz in dual channel and the highest spec model comes with 512 GB Intel® PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD coupled with 16 GB DDR4-3200 MHz RAM in dual channel although both are upgradable to higher limits.
Speakers
The speakers are decent enough for a gaming laptop. Powered by B&O(Bang & Olufsen) it’s quite OK for conferences and watching movies. We still recommend a headset while gaming because the sound from fans might interfere with the sounds coming from the speakers.
Battery Life
HP Victus comes with a 4-cell, 70 Wh Li-ion polymer battery pack and HP promises an average battery back up of upto 5 hours and 45 minutes. It also supports fast charging with a 50% charge in under 30 minutes. The laptops come with upto a 200 W Smart AC power adapter depending on the model.
