Asus Chromebook Flip C214 - Full Review with Pros and Cons
Asus has recently launched a series of Chromebooks in the Indian market. Focusing on the students, this series of laptops are affordable and useful for daily routine work such as emails, attending conferences, or online classes. The Asus Chromebook Flip C214 is a 2-in-1 laptop with a really nice design and built for the price. This laptop comes with an Intel Celeron dual-core processor and 4GB ram offering decent performance in its segment.
Build and Quality
The Asus Chromebook Flip C214 is a ruggedized convertible laptop that is designed to meet all the rigorous demands of educational users. The device is ergonomically designed and comes with a compact factor as it is a convertible. The Flip C214 is constructed to withstand everyday knocks and handling as it is surrounded by a rubber strip on all sides . The laptop weighs 1.2 kilos and is entirely made of plastic and it complies with military-grade standards. The screen does not come with any protective coating, so it is recommended to be careful while using it in tablet mode. The laptop houses two cameras one HD cam at the top and a 5MP camera located on the base on the right side.
The Laptop has a scratch-resistant surface on the lid which offers an elegant look and firm grip on the device.
Ports, I/O and Connectivity
The laptop houses the power button, volume rockers with a USB Type-C 3.1 Gen 1 port on the right.
On the left side, the device has a USB Type-A 3.1 Gen 1 port, a USB Type-C 3.1 Gen 1 port, a micro SD card slot, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Keyboard – The keyboard on the Asus Chromebook C214 comes with a spill-resistant chicklet keyboard which has 1.5mm key travel which is decent enough. The keys don’t have much feedback. Still, writing a long document won’t be a problem.
Touchpad – The touchpad comes with Windows Precision drivers and is of a click-pad style, meaning you can click down anywhere. It is of a decent size though the surface is not well suited for precision cursor control.
Asus Chromebook Flip C214 comes with an 11.6-inch touchscreen display with 1366×768 resolution with a 16:9 aspect ratio giving it a Screen-to-body ratio of 65%. It offers a peak brightness of 200nit which is good enough for indoor but taking the device out in sunlight might not be a good decision. The display on the Chromebook features 178-degree wide viewing angles and makes sure that you never experience any reflections as it has an antiglare coating. The colour and sharpness levels are decent.
Asus Chromebook Flip C214 is powered by an Intel Celeron N4000 1.1 GHz Processor paired with 4GB of RAM and Intel UHD Graphics 600. Designed for students and routine tasks the device works smoothly. Not to forget that it’s a Chromebook and it comes with Chrome OS and not Windows OS.
The Asus Chromebook Flip C214 works without any lag during all the routine tasks. The device can handle casual gaming but a lot is to be expected from it in terms of gaming.
The Asus Chromebook Flip C214 comes with two storage options offering 32GB or 64GB of eMMC storage. Asus should have offered at least 128GB of internal storage as 64GB feels a bit less in this era. eMMC is not as fast as an SSD still it is not much of a problem as the device is running on Chome OS, although The memory on the device can be expanded up to 2TB using a memory card.
The Asus Chromebook Flip C214 comes with dual bottom-firing speakers which provide for a decent experience. They are good enough for understanding dialogue in movies and games.
The Asus Chromebook Flip C214 Comes with a 50WHrs, 3-cell Li-ion battery. The device can last up to 8 hrs on a single charge and the other good thing is that the device can be charged using the USB Type-C port. That means you don’t need to carry an additional charger and can easily charge this Chromebook with a phones charger. The charging time is pretty fast as compared to the other laptops in this segment.
